Nicomedes III bequeathed his kingdom to Rome in 74 B.C. In 65 B.C., at the conclusion of the Third Mithridatic War, Paphlagonia and western Pontus were ceded to Bithynia, and "Bithynia et Pontus" became a Roman province.
