Rome took advantage of the Sardinian revolt of 238 B.C. against Carthage to occupy the island. In 227 B.C., Rome occupied Corsica as well, and the two islands were united into a single province. At the end of the Second Punic War, all Mediterranean islands once belonging to Carthage were formally transferred to Rome.
