I Remember
last revised 1990(?)

I remember God was greener, louder;
Dully, slyly sped the sun together,
Heaven low and hell above the heather;
Angels sipped the stars away like powder.

Every day it happened, every hour;
Majesty decried the sulking preacher;
Crazily declaimed the weary teacher;
Sang the king a song of gilded power.

Thus the age of Lemming towers afire:
Armies shred the teary people's favors;
Kingly priests build people peaceful lavers,
Government atop them all require.

Never wove unwove a wary being
Moral order caught awry distended
Mended never ever could unmended
And a child was blindly brought to seeing.

Beautiful it was and nature ever
Moved within an orbit ever bleating
Deviled flew the moon and new repeating
Lies the God of heaven now or never.
