Quincunx

Today's Date: 22 Garnet 22079
Calendars: 22078, 22079, 22080

The Quincunx Way is less an organized religion than the collective beliefs and practices of the many diverse indigenous peoples of Haldevia. What is referred to as "the Quincunx Way" actually encompasses many disparate cults that are united by a common outlook, and adherence to a common pantheon and mythology.

Grand Matriarch: Kyllikki Outolainen
Council Seat: Sodankylä
Commonly Referred to As: Heathenism, New World Paganism
Hierarchy and Organization: In ancient times, the Grand Goblin and the Fairy Queen were semi-deific leaders of their religions, and there were organized priesthoods, with "Chief Mages" or "Chief Priests" in each locality, that served them. There is a similar organization among the Elves of the Rouvanian Confederation, under the leadership of the Grand Matriarch. Outside of the Rouvanian Confederation, what remains of this once proud religion is practiced by isolated Adepts or Shamans, who serve as the religious leaders for groups of slaves or ex-slaves. Many Haldeven, Waltian, and Shushanish authorities have banned the practice of the old indigenous religion.
Alignment: Neutral
Recognized Orders: Mystic Theurges, Hierophants, Clerics, Druids, Adepts
Gods and Goddesses: In the Quincunx Way, there are the "high gods" (Zircon, Amethyst, Chrysoprase, Jacinth, Obisidian, Emerald, Garnet, Hematite, and Topaz). Below them are their lieutenants, the governors of the lower realms (the sacred dragon spirits; Manes, Governor of the Underworld; Somniator, Lord of Dreams), and the old deified emperors and empresses, ancestors, and a variety of other spirits. (See the section on theology for more information about the gods and goddesses of the Quincunx Way.)
Position on "Miracles": The Quincunx Way is a way of miracles; though for some reason, the gods no longer seem to permit them anywhere near the major Human settlements of Haldeve, Nortonia, Eastonia, New Waltia or the Shushanish Empire.
