Turkey Reprieve
last revised November 25, 2004

There's a path at the foot of the mountains
Near the house where my parents live.
We walked there Thanksgiving morning
Past houses smelling of roasting meat.

On the path we found a turkey all alone.
It clucked tamely at us as we passed.
Someone had left it corn kernels
We left mercy bread.
