I wrote this poem after attending a chapel service at the nursing home where I visited members of Bethany Lutheran Church as part of their "Friendly Visitors" program.
We turned our faces brightly
To the white light of death,
Some of us with tears,
Some of us with frowns of disinterest,
And some of us humming
The sweet, sweet melody of
"What a Friend We Have in Jesus..."
He went though our midst
Blinding us with light
And making us see,
Transforming our crippled bodies
Into the bodies of angels,
Turning us caterpillars
Into butterflies.
